Some useful links

Here are a few links you will find useful

• W3C Markup Validator - This site allows you to upload a file (or type in some code or provide a URL) and it will check to make sure your XHTML is valid. The W3C also has validators for CSS and other protocols accessible from this link. You WILL be validating your pages this semester, so get good and cozy with this service.
• The W3Schools - This website has wonderful tutorials on just about every facet of web design and coding. Taking the XHTML , CSS and Javascript tutorials will put you ahead of the game in this class.
• CSS Zen Garden - This is the website upon which your final project will be based. The concept is this: The entire website consists of one HTML page. Web designers submit CSS files to radically change the look of that page. They are not allowed to alter the HTML in any way. The best designs make the live site. Will yours? Check out the site and get a sense for the incredible power of CSS as a design tool.
• A list apart - a blog for serious web design geeks. Articles on the latest trends in design, as well as how-to articles and tutorials. It's a must-read.
• Web Pages That Suck - Author Vincent Flander's website. His motto is "learn good web page design by looking at bad web pages."
• Cool Site of the Day - The keepers of this website sift through the thousands of websites submitted to them to select a daily "cool site." Personally, I think their "coolness" standards have gone down in recent years, but there are still some gems in there. Surf through the archives to get a good sense of industry trends and best practices.
